Chinese publishing studio Tencent released a trailer for their upcoming zombie mobile game, taking a few cues from other Western titles.

Chinese publishing studio Tencent Interactive Entertainment released a trailer for a new mobile game they are currently developing. What makes this particular title so noteworthy is how inspired it seems to be by Western games in the same genre such as Days Gone, Metal Gear Survive, Left for Dead, and State of Decay.

According to Twitter user ZhugeEX, the Tencent game is an open world survival title with zombies. There’s also online co-op gameplay, possibly Tower Defense going by the actual trailer:

Just got round to watching the trailer for one of Tencent’s upcoming games. Currently under a codename: 代号:生机.

It’s basically an open world survival type game with zombies. Has online Co-Op gameplay. Kind of reminds me of Days Gone tbh. https://t.co/mXp4YFOO9w

Not much else is known about the title, except that goes by codename 代号:生机, which roughly translate to Code: Live. The trailer is just below, and honestly for a mobile game it looks pretty great. I especially appreciate the diversity in environments, which should make for some interesting gameplay mechanics.

Youtuber KOO KO put together a video comparing this trailer to the first 10-15 seconds of the Days Gone‘s trailer, as well as additional footage from other titles such as State of Decay.

As one can see, there’s a lot the Tencent title borrows from. But that’s not a bad thing at all, considering how oversaturated the zombie genre is already. And borrowing the best elements from other games to make a polished finish product is absolutely a positive in my book.

China has become a big player in the video game market as of late. Ubisoft and Tencent partnered up to bring the former’s games to PC and mobile in China. And Ubisoft had blocked a takeover attempt by Vivendi last year; interestingly enough Tencent acquired a five percent stake in Ubisoft through Vivendi. However, China’s crackdowns on online games caused Tencent to lose its biggest video game company status last year.
