ASUS has just announced a thirtieth-anniversary version of their Prime X299 motherboard. Compared to the X299-DELUXE, the ASUS Prime X299 Edition 30 has a handful of interesting upgrades.

First, while I strongly argue that a desktop PC should be plugged in to Ethernet, the ASUS Prime X299 Edition 30 has support for 802.11ax through its Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 wireless adapter. It also has Bluetooth 5.0, versus Bluetooth 4.1 on the Prime X299-Deluxe, which could be useful for upcoming peripherals, such as headsets and gamepads.

Second, ASUS claims that the Prime X299 Edition 30 has upgraded power delivery for overclocking. While the Core-X processors go up to 165W TDP with the Core i9-9980XE, ASUS claims that they have enough cooling to deliver a sustained 544W load.

Third, ASUS added a little 2” OLED display under the CPU socket. They suggest that it is used for system stats, messages, or images (including animated GIFs). If you are the type to customize the inside of your case with various RGBs, then a little display could open some possibilities.

One thing I noticed is that they seem to lack a U.2 port (compared to the X299-Deluxe). This should be okay for most users (as in basically everyone but me) but it could be a problem if you rely upon it for a drive (ex: certain Optane SSDs). Of course, it might have one and I just missed it. On the other hand, it has three M.2 slots that are capable of NVMe x4.

Pricing and availability have not been announced.
