After seven long and grueling phases of campaigning across the country, the voting for the 38-day 2019 Lok Sabha elections ended today at 6 pm. The exit polls started trickling in after 6:30 pm and it seems like a clean sweep for BJP in Karnataka, the DMK-Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu and Congress-led UDF in Kerala. Three surveys, Times Now-VMR, India Today-Axis and Today’s Chanakya, have predicted similar outcomes for the three southern states.
K Chandrasekhara Rao’s Telengana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is likely to improve its performance in the just-ended Lok Sabha elections as the IANS-CVOTER exit poll projected 14 seats for it out of Telangana’s total 17 Lok Sabha constituencies.
In the 2014 general elections, the party won 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Despite its loss in 2018 assembly polls, the BJP is likely to win about 21 to 25 out of Karnataka’s 28 seats, the India Today-Axis My India Exit poll predicted on Sunday, IANS reported.
The BJP, which had won 17 seats in Karnataka in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, will improve its tally in the state to 21 to 25.
According to the exit poll, the party got a vote share of 49%, six per cent higher as compared to last general elections.
On the other hand, the Congress and the Janata-Dal-Secular, which contested the polls in alliance, will get three to six seats .
The DMK, which suffered a major debacle in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, will make a grand comeback in the 2019 general elections as the party-led alliance will get about 34 to 38 seats in Tamil Nadu, the India Today-Axis My India exit poll predicted on Sunday, IANS reported.
The state’s ruling AIADMK, which had won 37 out of the state’s 39 seats, will get around zero to four seats, it said.
However, Andhra Pradesh threw up interesting results. While Times Now-VMR India Today-Axis surveys are betting on YSRCP to win big, Today’s Chanakya says Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP might pip the Opposition led by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

IANS-CVoter exit poll predicts 14 seats for TDP, gives 11 to YSR
It’s a close fight between Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress’s Jaganmohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh in the general election, reports IANS.
The INS-CVoter exit poll has predicted 14 seats for Telugu Desam Party (TDP) while giving 11 to main rival YSR Congress.
Compared to the tally in the previous Lok Sabha, the TDP chief is likely to see his number falling by one seat while YSR Congress gaining significantly.
The TDP had won 15 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections compared to 7 by the YSR Congress.

Today’s Chanakya gives overwhelming majority to DMK in TN, BJP in Karnataka
Today’s Chanakya made these predictions as part of its exil poll.
In Tamil Nadu, DMK is forecast to win 31 seats while AIADMK is getting not more than six seats.
In Kerala, Congress-led UDF is getting 31 seats while LDF is poised to win 4 seats.
In Karnataka, BJP is all set to snaffle 23 seats and Congress might have to be content with 5 seats

Naidu holds second round of talks with Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu Sunday held a second round of talks with top opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar, in an apparent bid to rally support for a non-BJP government at the Centre, PTI reported.
Naidu, who arrived in the national capital on Friday, had met Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party chief Pawar, Loktantrik Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav and leaders of the Communist Party of India on Saturday as well.
He had then flew to Lucknow and met Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati.

TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu met BSP supremo Mayawati to put together a coalition
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu Saturday met leaders of the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party in Lucknow, continuing his efforts to put together a coalition to form the next government at the Centre, PTI reported.

Re-polling underway at 7 Andhra Pradesh booths; 32% turnout recorded until 11 am
Nearly 32% voters exercised their ballots in seven polling stations as re-polling was underway in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday amid tight security, IANS reported.
As of 11 a.m., 31.92% voter turnout was recorded in the polling stations located in Chandragiri, one of the Assembly segments under Chittoor, according to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
The Election Commission (EC) ordered the re-polls following complaints by YSR Congress candidate from Chandragiri, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy that voters of a particular community were not allowed to cast their ballots on April 11.

Re-polling underway at 2 Kerala Lok Sabha seats
Re-polling in Kerala’s Kannur and Kasargod Lok Sabha seats was underway on Sunday after it was ordered by the state’s Chief Electoral Officer following complaints of bogus voting, which was later verified.
Voting in four polling booths in Kasargode and three in Kannur began at 7 a.m. and will end at 6 p.m.
As of 9 a.m., 20% voter turnout was recorded the two constituencies, IANS reported.

Exit poll results to start trickling in after 6:30 pm
Exit polls will start coming on Sunday after 6:30 pm. For the first time, Election Commission covered websites and social media platforms in its advisory.
The poll body also directed newspapers and TV channels that they should disclose the sample size of the electorate, the details of their methodology, the margin of error and the background of the polling agency which had conducted the surveys.
